A cutter suction dredger is a large, efficient, and continuously operating engineering vessel that integrates excavation,

transportation, and discharge. It is one of the most commonly used and important ship types in modern dredging

projects. It is particularly suitable for channel dredging, port construction and maintenance, land reclamation, water

conservancy projects, environmental dredging, and other fields.



Core working principle:

The core working principle of a cutter suction dredger can be summarized as "loosening, suction, pumping, and

discharge" in four steps:

Loosening (cutting): A powerful cutter head is installed at the lower part of the bow. This cutter head is usually

driven by a motor or hydraulic drive to rotate at high speed, and the teeth (or blades) cut, loosen, and crush the

mud, clay, gravel, and even soft rock on the bottom of the water.

Suction: A large suction pipe inlet is installed near the cutter head. The loosened mud-water mixture (called mud)

is sucked into the suction pipe under the strong negative pressure (suction) generated by the mud pump (usually

located in the hull).

Pumping: The sucked mud is transported to the mud pump on the ship through the suction pipe. After the mud

pump is pressurized, the mud is transported to the predetermined discharge location through the mud discharge

pipeline (which can be a floating pipe floating on the water surface or a submerged pipe buried in the water).

Discharge: The mud is finally discharged to the designated area
